5 things to consider when choosing your homes blinds

INSPIRATION

When it comes to decorating your home, your choice of blinds can play a significant role in its overall look and feel.

With the right blinds, you can control the amount of natural light that enters your home, maintain privacy, and even add an extra layer of insulation to minimise electricity costs and keep your home comfortable year-round. Yet with so many options available on the market, choosing the right blinds for your home can be overwhelming.

Here are five things to consider when selecting blinds for your home:

#1 What function do they need to perform?

Think carefully about functionality of each room and how the blinds will be used in this space. Do you need blinds that can be easily adjusted to control the amount of light coming in? How often do they need to be opened and closed? Do you want a blind that can be completely retracted, or one that will usually remain partially closed?

For rooms which need a classic up-down blind, for instance, you may want to consider Luxaflex® Roller Blinds. Available in single or double formats, these smart blinds are available in a wide range of fabrics and opacities. They are often a great option for bedrooms where they can provide privacy during the evening and be completely opened to emit natural light during daylight hours.

Or, for larger windows and doors, Luxaflex® Luminette® Privacy Sheers or Luxaflex® LumiShade® Window Coverings can be a great option as they can be easily stacked to the left, the right or even split down the centre, depending on your requirements.

If you’re unsure how window coverings can function in the various rooms of your home, be sure to speak with a Luxaflex® consultant.

#2 What material works best in each space?

When selecting blinds for your home, you will also need to think carefully about the material you choose for each. The Luxaflex® range of blinds boasts an extensive range of fabric types and colour options – including a range of low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) textiles for those sensitive to the smell of fabrics. Many fabrics are sanitised for optimal hygiene and treated with Duraguard® Fabric Protector to repel most stain-causing agents.

And it’s also possible to select materials in different opacities, depending on how much light you wish to enter a space. For bedrooms, for instance, you may want to consider a blockout opacity, whereas for living areas, you may opt for a more sheer fabric which emits plenty of natural light.

#3 How much energy could you save?

Your choice of blinds can also play a significant role in maintaining the energy efficiency of your home. By choosing blinds with insulating properties, you can keep your home warm in winter and cool in summer, while also saving on your energy bills.

The unique honeycomb structure of Luxaflex® Duette Shades lends a striking, contemporary look, with the added benefit of providing effective insulation by trapping air inside the honeycomb cell. The honeycomb-within-a-honeycomb structure of these unique shades helps reduce heat loss in winter and keeps homes cool in summer.

#4 How will you control them?

When choosing your blinds, think about how you want to control them day-to-day.

With a beaded chain and cord operation, you can manually open and close your blind to control the flow of light into a space. For Luxaflex® Vertical Blinds and Panel Glide Blinds you can also choose the option of a traversing wand for effortless and smooth operation control. Simply use one hand tilt the blades and draw across.

There is also the option of Luxaflex® PowerView® Motorisation, which allows you to schedule your window coverings to open and close on their own—at any time of the day— with the touch of a button, a tap on a mobile device or the sound of your voice. You can even set schedules for your blinds to open and close automatically.

#5 Child Safety

When choosing blinds for your home, it's important to consider the safety features to protect your children and pets. Luxaflex® blinds are designed with safety in mind, with both cordless and motorised systems that eliminate the need for cords or chains that meet Australian safety standards, ensuring ultimate peace of mind for parents.
